Case Name: Hazard Operability Study

Problem Description:A bio-technology firm was constructing a large research and manufacturing campus.  There was a need for a large waste solvent collection and storage system that had been planned with some level of design specifications.  The tank had been placed in a deep vault (approximately 16 feet below grade).  We were brought in to review the design and placement of the system.

Our Involvement: Our solution was to modify the gravity drainage system to include two lift stations, eliminate all below slab and below grade waste solvent piping, and elevate the tank to grade level.  These recommendations were followed, saving the client approximately $300,000 in construction and shoring costs, and virtually eliminating the confined space hazards and environmental liability associated with below grade waste piping.
